Blanket Project for Very Special Arts Festival
Dear Blue Umbrella members and friends,
At a recent Blue Umbrella meeting, the decision was made to assist GFWC Brandon Service League with the continuation of their 29-year tradition of the Alice Storms Very Special Arts Festival.
Alice Storms was a charter member of GFWC Brandon Service League. With a decrease in the number of active members available, the project was at risk of disappearing. Partnering with GFWC Brandon Junior Woman’s Club will assure that they can continue to provide a hands-on creative arts experience for 200+ preschool and kindergarten public school special needs children.
With a change of venue, the outdoor picnic at the conclusion of the event will now take place in an indoor gymnasium. The proposal is to provide each child with a fleece blanket to sit on and then keep as a remembrance of their arts adventure. This is where the Blue Umbrella Club can help. It is our mission to reach out with love, respect, and kindness to work with other organizations that need help.
Blue Umbrella has offered to help provide no-sew fleece blankets for each child. We hope that you or members of your organization will work with us to provide a comfort blanket for these precious children. There are several ways you can help:
No-sew fleece blanket
- Buy fleece and make blankets at your location. Have the completed blankets delivered to a Blue Umbrella Club board member before December 31, or bring them to Fall Board (instructions attached, enlist your local club to help!)
- Join us for our hands-on project at GFWC Florida Fall Board
- Bring 1-yard cuts of fleece to Fall Board
- Bring pre-cut fleece to Fall Board, ready to be tied
- Stop by the Blue Umbrella table and participate in making a blanket on-site (fabric and scissors provided, you will be tying knots in pre-cut fabric)
- Please download the blanket instructions before buying or cutting fabric!
- Donate money to support Blue Umbrella Club's mission which includes projects such as making and providing blankets for this project

They are available to order in sizes SMALL - 4XL . Please order at least one size up from your normal size. They do shrink a little when put in the washer and dryer. Please be aware that this is more of a fitted shirt. It is not loose and flowy.
